Aftercare

Tattoo/Permanent Cosmetic Aftercare

At Olive & Ember tattoo studio, we pride ourselves on always providing a 100% clean and sterile environment.  We exclusively provide single use, disposable items during the tattoo procedure.  All artists are trained and qualified in the practice of tattooing and all clients are guaranteed the highest level of performance.

STANDARD TATTOO HEALING:

  1. After 3-5 hours, wash hands and remove bandage.  Gently wash your new tattoo with warm water and antibacterial-unscented soap.  Use the palm of your hand to wash the area.  Pat dry with a clean towel and allow to air dry.  Do not rebandage your tattoo.

  2. Apply a thin layer of aftercare ointment,  (Hustle butter, aqaphor) 2-3 times a day for one week.  If using hustle butter continue using for another 7-10 days or as needed.  If using other stop using after a week and switch to an unscented lotion.

  3. Stay out of direct sunlight/tanning booths for at least three weeks and avoid physical activities as much as possible. Avoid soaking in any stagnant water such as bathtubs, pools, jacuzzi, ocean, etc.  Avoid gardening and contact with animals until your tattoo is healed.

  4. You may experience some tenderness and minor swelling after the tattoo procedure.  This will subside within days of receiving your tattoo.  If you show signs or symptoms of infection such as major swelling and redness, extreme tenderness, red streaks moving from the tattoo towards your heart, elevated temperature/fever purulent drainage from the tattoo seek medical attention immediately.

  5. Your tattoo should be healed within 2-4 weeks.  Should you have any problems, questions or concerns please call, text, or email the shop and we will assist you.  Sun exposure will fade your tattoo over time.

Saniderm/Second Skin Bandage:

  1. The second skin we use is a sterile, breathable, waterproof, germ-proof barrier to protect your new tattoo.  This bandage will protect your tattoo from contamination and will also protect your clothes and sheets from excess ink, blood and fluid that is a normal by-product from a healing tattoo.

  2. Keep the bandage on for 3-5 days.  Remove in the shower with warm water and wash gently with an antibacterial soap.  Always pull bandage away from itself and never up/above it.

  3. Your tattoo will be nearly healed and you can apply a thin layer or aftercare ointment for the first few days after as needed

  4. If your bandage peels to expose your fresh tattoo, even the smallest amount, or if you experience any redness/swelling around the bandage: remove bandage and wash thoroughly.  Then continue the steps from the STANDARD TATTOO HEALING instructions.
